You know that feeling you get when you do something that seems really hard and you don't think you can do it? I did that today. I climb to the top of Table Mountain.
For some folks this hike would have been a stroll in the park but for me it was intimidating and challenged me both mentally and physically and now, having pushed through my doubts and climbed this mountain one slow step at a time, I'm enjoying that fist-pumping-in-the-air-shaking-my-booty-like-I-just-don't-care-arms-flung-out-wide-spinning-around-like-Julie-Andrews-throwing-back-my-head-and-laughing-right-out-loud kind of feeling. Do you know what I mean?
Do you have a mountain to climb? What do you want to do that challenges you, intimidates you or makes you feel afraid? Everyone's "mountain" is different, but we can all enjoy that fist-pumping-in-the-air-shaking-your-booty-like-you-just-don't-care-arms-flung-out-wide-spinning-around-like-Julie-Andrews-throwing-back-your-head-and-laughing-right-out-loud kind of feeling whether your mountain is a stroll in the park or a climb up Mount Everest. Your mountain could be something like speaking up in a meeting, or going to a party, eating healthy, or just getting up off the couch and turning off the TV.
Doing things that are uncomfortable changes you, it expands you, it makes you more resilient and helps you grow and achieve your dreams. The more you do things that are uncomfortable, the more willing you become to do other things that make you uncomfortable and before long you're doing things you never believed you could. Just this morning I was a girl who wished she could climb to the top of a mountain. Now, I am the kind of girl who climbs to the top of a mountain. Each small action taken to support your dreams and desires stretches you and gives you confidence, it strengthens you and allows you to take more risks. Actions build upon actions. Just as we must exercise and stretch our muscles to keep our bodies toned and working properly, we must also stretch our ability to take risks and do things that strengthen us emotionally if we want to grow and achieve our dreams.
Wherever you are today and whatever your mountain is, I hope you find a way to the top and enjoy that fist-pumping-in-the-air-shaking-your-booty-like-you-just-don't-care-arms-flung-out-wide-spinning-around-like-Julie-Andrews-throwing-back-your-head-and-laughing-right-out-loud kind of feeling too. The view from up here is spectacular!
