"Some days are diamonds, some days are stones". That line from a John Denver song was appropriate for today. Some days just seem to turn into a series of problems that need to be solved. It can be frustrating and tempting to give in to the drama when things don't go according to plan, but I'm learning to take things as they come and meet challenges head-on. I find the solutions come more quickly when I do, and I'm much less stressed in the process. First on my list today was to get the truck inspected and the oil changed. Simple enough right? The oil change ended up taking an hour and a half because the lift was not working properly, and the truck failed inspection because the rear tires were showing wear and need to be replaced. This was unexpected, but actually quite fortuitous since I would much rather replace them now, before I head out on my cross-country trip, then discover there's a problem along the way!
My next stop was NBT National Tire and Battery, to get some new tires. The tires need to be ordered, but they'll be here tomorrow afternoon. Once I have good tires under me I can go back and get the inspection completed.
I was also chasing the insurance check issued to me by Amica for the repair on Wild Thing today. I deposited it into my Scottrade account two weeks ago and it has not yet been posted. After a lengthy call to Scottrade I was informed the check is being returned to me because it bore both my name and my husband's name so they couldn't deposit it in my individual account. And so it goes. Our modern lives are filled with these sorts of details. I'm thankful again though that I discovered this before leaving so I have time to correct the problem.
I spent the next few hours sorting and packing, then I was off to the grocery store to get provisions for our Thanksgiving Feast. I have so much to be thankful for, and foremost is my family. I'm so grateful that we will all be together this Thanksgiving ...even if it happens a bit early! The "stones" I encountered in my way today required no heavy lifting and tomorrow who knows? Maybe it will be a diamond day!
